Elegancia Vintage Port (2010)
A Barterra exclusive! Elegancia is made in Madera in the tradition of the best porto from Portugal. The unique decanter bottle lends a touch of European elegance.
Wine History: The Madera appellation is renowned for its dessert and port-style wines. Located in California's San Joaquin Valley just south of Yosemite National Park, the region has a hot, arid climate that's tempered by the nearby San Joaquin River and Sierra Nevada mountain range. The climate and soil are ideal for producing sweeter varietals used in dessert wines and ports.
Tasting Notes: Low crop yield led to some field blending and complex lots that were hand-selected for harvesting. This wine is comprised entirely of Portuguese varietals: Tinta Madeira (40%), Touriga (15%), and Tinta Cao (45%). Additional wood tank aging makes Elegancia full in fruit and palate. It's a delightful way to finish a special meal, by itself or accompanied by chocolate truffles.
Additional Notes: "Passing the port" is a longstanding British custom, and the tag on the Elegancia bottle explains how it works so that you can try it at your next dinner party. Elegancia will keep indefinitely after opening. If you don't finish the bottle in one sitting, simply recork it until you are ready to enjoy it again. The unique bottle was made in Italy and it can be reused as a decanter.
